Background
Advanced Piping Systems (APS) are an engineering and fabrication company which builds a range of industrial pipes and fittings for some of Australia’s largest operators, such as BHP, Rio Tinto and the South Australian Government.
On the factory floor, there are some specialised workflow and project management requirements for the engineers, machinists and fitters.
APS approached Mainstay to take on the evolution of their custom built in-house workflow management software.
The need
APS had hit a number of roadblocks, and were in need of a development company to take the reins and bring the platform up to a standard which reflected the functional needs and user experience for project managers and engineers.
The Laravel-based platform had the potential to dramatically increase productivity, job tracking and efficiency, cost tracking, quality assurance and reporting. With highly specific and niche workflow requirements, the platform had to be closely built-for-purpose.
Evolution
Working with APS’s Product owner, we developed a prioritised backlog of bug fixes, features and future phases to evolve the platform.
To date, just a few of the enhancements have included:
- New views, key data and reporting on the updated Admin dashboard
- Capture new categories of job types and sub-types
- A “work order” dashboard, with the ability for welders on the floor to log in and adjust job status and time tracking
- A PDF library and generator
- Smart forms and conditional rules
- Device and tablet responsiveness for ease-of-use on the factory floor
- Improved field and data flows and displays
- Upgraded exports and reporting
Where to from here?
From here, we continue to work with APS on backlog of initiatives to achieve greater and more granular controls on workflow, reduced manual updates and data entry, and higher levels of quality assurance.
